Building Consequence Classes
As per Approved Document A
It is crucial to define the correct consequence class of the building in order to reduce its sensitivity to disproportionate collapse in the event of an accident.
There are 4 classes and they are defined on the below table and diagram. Each of them has different requirements for justifying robustness. The main difference lies on the requirement for provision of horizontal and vertical ties and what their specification needs to be.
